(1) Do a Google search for Name + Scam or Name + Complaints. Does the promoter own a domain name with Scam in it ? If yes, he has engaged in a defensive Search Engine Optimisation Strategy. Does he show up in forums and complaint websites (you may have to scroll down to page 2,3,4) ?
(2) Do a social media check (youtube / facebook). Here is an example of a simple indicative youtube check. Please note this is not a conclusive check.

(4) Check specific forums, such as Somersoft
